Spotify Opens Stockholm Studio to European Artists to Celebrate 10 Billion Streams

Spotify has officially opened its Stockholm studio to artists across Europe in celebration of its Spotify Singles program reaching a massive 10 billion streams.

As Spotify’s longest-running original music franchise, Spotify Singles has showcased over 750 artists from all genres, creating more than 1,000 recordings across 45 countries. To mark this achievement, the Stockholm studio, which first opened in 2018, has now expanded its reach beyond Nordic artists to include musicians from all over Europe.

The first artist to record in the newly expanded studio was Damiano David, who released a cover of Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus’ “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart” earlier this month.

“We’re incredibly excited to hit the 10 billion stream milestone for Spotify Singles,” says Bryan Johnson, International Head of Artist and Industry Partnerships at Spotify. “Since its launch in 2016, the program has given countless artists a platform to connect with their fans, release new music, and reach listeners worldwide.”

“Opening up our award-winning Stockholm studio to artists from across Europe will further elevate the program, offering new opportunities for collaboration and creativity,” Johnson adds.

Federica Tremolada, Spotify’s General Manager for Europe, shares, “We’re thrilled to reopen our Stockholm studio, where it all began for us. This studio isn’t just another recording space – it symbolizes our commitment to creative diversity and collaboration across Europe.”

“We believe these values drive economic growth, cultural exchange, and social unity. By expanding access to the Stockholm studio, we’re reinforcing our ongoing dedication to supporting talent from Europe and beyond, empowering artists to thrive and share their work globally.”

In 2025, the Stockholm studio will also feature various projects, including a Spotify Singles collection celebrating the Eurovision catalog.

Daniel Blumberg Wins BAFTA Award for Best Original Score

Daniel Blumberg has been honored with his first-ever BAFTA Award for Best Original Score for his work on Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist at the prestigious 2025 EE British Academy Film Awards in London. This recognition marks a significant milestone in Blumberg’s career, cementing his position as one of the most innovative composers in the film industry today. His score for The Brutalist has been widely praised for its atmospheric and emotive qualities, which perfectly complement the film's gripping narrative and dark, contemplative tone.

Blumberg's success at the BAFTAs comes at a time when his talents are garnering widespread attention in the world of cinema, with his score for The Brutalist also earning him a nomination for the upcoming Academy Awards. His work on the film has struck a chord with critics and audiences alike, underscoring his ability to create music that resonates deeply with the themes and emotions of the films he works on.

In addition to Blumberg, several other talented composers were nominated in the Original Score category at this year’s BAFTA Awards. These include Volker Bertelmann for Conclave, Clément Ducol & Camille for Emilia Pérez, Robin Carolan for Nosferatu, and Kris Bowers for The Wild Robot. Each nominee has made a significant contribution to the cinematic world, and the competition in the category was fierce, making Blumberg's win all the more impressive.

Saudi Arabia Invites Hans Zimmer to Reimagine National Anthem

Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer, known for his iconic scores for The Lion King and Gladiator, has reportedly been approached by Saudi Arabia to create a new version of the country's national anthem. A senior Saudi official confirmed the collaboration as part of broader cultural and entertainment initiatives in the kingdom.

The request is part of Saudi Arabia's efforts to enhance its global image and diversify its economy beyond oil dependency. Zimmer, who earned Academy Awards for his work on The Lion King (1995) and Dune (2022), is a celebrated composer behind the music for cinematic classics such as Rain Man and The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia, revealed details of his discussions with Zimmer in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Sharing a photo of their meeting, he wrote: "We discussed many exciting future projects, including rearranging the Saudi national anthem with different instruments."

Alalshikh also mentioned plans for other collaborations with Zimmer, including creating an original musical piece titled Arabia, inspired by Saudi culture, and organizing a large-scale concert as part of Riyadh Season in the coming years. Additionally, he proposed Zimmer’s involvement in scoring the soundtrack for The Battle of Yarmouk (Khalid bin Al-Walid), a Saudi film currently in development.

According to Alalshikh, Zimmer has "agreed on the broad outlines" of these projects, and both parties are hopeful of finalizing the agreements soon.

Saudi Arabia’s current national anthem, Aash Al-Malik ("Long Live the King"), was composed in 1947 by an Egyptian musician at the request of King Abdulaziz, the country’s founding monarch. It remains unclear why the kingdom is exploring a reimagined version of the anthem at this time.
